Simplifying our lives is something we always desire, this is why minimalist living is so attractive to most people. Minimizing your makeup to the bare essentials should be no different!
The Ultimate Minimalist Makeup Essentials
I am a makeup lover just like the next gal but when my makeup stash was starting to overwhelm me, instead of using the products more often, I ended up not putting on makeup all together.
This may sit well with some women – the no makeup look. However, I just can’t pull that off with the bags of undereye circles, redness, and my sagging skin.
I needed some kind of coverage and you may too! If you are just like me and need the bare minimum to look a little put together, here are my minimalist makeup essentials!
Why Put On Makeup?
For most women, makeup tends to boost confidence and give a more polished look. Putting on makeup may make you feel better before going about the rest of your day. It’s not so much looking like someone totally different but just putting “your best face” forward.
What Is Desired About Minimalist Makeup?
Saves time
When you have your makeup essentials and nothing more – it saves you time everyday not having to figure out what to put on your face. You already have the statement pieces you need to pull of your minimalist makeup look.
Saves money
With a huge selection of makeup to choose from at places like Sephora or your local drug store, have one key piece (and sticking to it) will save you money spending on more makeup products!
Saves space
If you’re a makeup lover like I am, you probably have a huge makeup bag full of makeup. Maybe even multiple products that deliver the same result. What is desirable about dwindling down to minimalist makeup essentials is that it saves a lot of space and therefore reduces clutter!
9 Must Have Minimalist Makeup Products!
These makeup products are the staples and the epitome of minimalist makeup. If I had to only use 10 makeup products for the rest of my life, these are what I would choose:
1. Blush
Makes such a big difference to your look to just add blush. Depending on how you place your blush, changes your look. Another great thing about blush is it is versatile! You can use it as eyeshadow! If it’s cream or liquid blush, you can add the product to your lips for a hint of color!
For years, this was the only product I used as makeup. No joking!
Here are my recommendations:
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Dewy Liquid Blush $37
elf Monochromatic Multistick $5
Honest Creme Cheek Blush $15.99
2. Concealer
Again, another product that is versatile! This product is primarily used to cover up dark under eyes. If you’ve got under eye circles like me or your eyes are not as bright as they used to be, I would highly recommend grabbing a concealer. These babies cover up (and some even brighten up) your under eyes! You can also use concealer to brighten or highlight your cupids bow and the space in between your eyes! You can also use this if you have a pesky pimple or some discoloration that you would like covered up!
Here are my recommendations:
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind $8.80
Wet N Wild Megaglo Makeup Stick $4.49
3. Tinted Moisturizer/BB Cream
A tinted moisturizer or BB cream serves to not only hydrate your skin but can also provide minimal coverage!
Here are my recommendations:
L’Oreal Paris Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream
Maybelline Dream Fresh Hydrating BB Cream $7.44
Marcelle BB Cream Beauty Balm $21.30
4. Mascara
Using a mascara really helps to enhance the eyes. It not only darkens lashes but also provides volume and lengthens them for brighter, bigger looking eyes!
Here are my recommendations:
L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Makeup Lash Paradise $16.97
Benefit Cosmetics Roller Lash Super Curling and Lifting Mascara
blinc Amplified Tubing Mascara $26.00
5. Lip Product
Whether you like a neutral lip or a bold lip, investing in a good lip product is a good idea! You can also use this product to add a little color to your cheeks as well! My lips tend to be dry and chapped so I would choose a product that is moisturizing.
Here are my recommendations:
L’Oreal Glow Paradise Hydrating Lipstick $7.69
Maybelline Super Stay Vinyl Ink Longwear Lipcolor $9.98
6. Finishing Powder/Setting Powder
A finishing powder or setting powder is a good product to have in your makeup bag to control that shine that makeup tends to give after a few hours or when you’ve got oily skin. It also helps to lock your makeup in place!
Here are my recommendations:
Coty Airspun Loose Face Powder $5.72
Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder – $40
Maybelline Fit Me Pressed Faced Powder $6.94
7. Matte Eyeshadow
If I could recommend just one eyeshadow to you, I would recommend on that is matte and a neutral color that is slightly darker than your skintone.
Here are my recommendations:
8. Makeup Brushes
You need a few staple brushes in your makeup bag in order to apply and blend your makeup. For your makeup to perform as best it can, not only do you have to consider the products but also the tools. Investing in good quality makeup brushes will enhance the performance of your makeup! Some things to look out for in makeup brushes are: the quality of the brush and it’s bristles. If the bristles fall out and if it feels rough against your face, those are not good quality brushes. Good makeup brushes should feel soft and gentle against your skin.
I would invest in a face makeup brush that you can use to apply your makeup and possibly blend and also an eyeshadow brush.
Here are my recommendations:
9. Beauty Sponge
A beauty sponge is also another staple product that I would recommend investing in. A beauty sponge helps to apply your makeup and blend it well!
Here are my recommendations:
10. One Compact Makeup Bag
My Ultimate Minimalist Makeup Recommendation
This makeup brand brings the “minimalist” in minimalist makeup, and that is Seint!
If you’ve never heard of Seint, it is a makeup system where your foundation, concealer, contour, blush, lip product, eye shadow, bronzer, setting powder and more – all located in ONE compact!
Once I’ve started using Seint, I ditched my large makeup bag because I no longer needed it. Everything that I place in my makeup bag, was all placed in one compact (except my brushes, sponge, and mascara).
